The leaves, cut into pieces, of G. elegans (1.1 kg) were percolated
with methanol at room temperature three times each with 20 L
MeOH for 12 h and the percolates were evaporated under a reduced
pressure to yield a residue (238 g). The later was partially
dissolved in H2O and the insoluble materials removed by filtration.
The filtrate was successively extracted with CHCl3 and then with nBuOH
to give two crude extracts after evaporation of solvent
