The experimental procedure to determine reaction kinetics at elevated pressures is similar to the procedure described above. At the beginning reagents are preheated separately and are mixed afterwards to start the reaction. Oleic acid is preheated directly in the reactor while sulphuric acid and ethanol are mixed, preheated and stored in a cannula, which is connected to one valve at the top flange. To start the reaction an overpressure is applied to the cannula, thus the mixture of ethanol and sulphuric acid enters the reactor. A suction line connected to the sampling port is used to take samples from the reaction mixture during the experiments. Prior to take each sample, the suction line was flushed by discarding approximately 1 ml of liquid from the line.
