Life cycle of Magnaprthe grisea. After spore attachment to the leaf surface and their rapid germination,
the M. grisea germ tube differentiates an appressorium that mediates to penetration of the fungus into
the underneath epidermal cell in less than 24-30 h after inoculation. Inside the host plant, the fungus
differentiates bulbous infectious hyphae that colonize host tissues without visible damages. Within 4-5
days after penetration, the fungus destroys the colonized tissues, leading to necrotic sporulating lesions
spreading the disease. (Source: Ribot et al., 2008.)
