IntroductionMolybdenum disulfide (MoS2), a two-dimensional layeredtransition-metal dichalcogenide, has attracted extensive interestdue to its potential in various applications ranging from elec-tronic devices and sensors to catalysts [1–3]. Recent studies showthat single-layered MoS2is a flexible and strong sheet with ahigh Young’s modulus of 270–330 GPa and breaking strength of16–30 GPa [4]. These excellent mechanical properties of MoS2makeit as a promising reinforcing filler for polymeric composites [5].Recently, we demonstrated that, with appropriate surface function-alization, single-layered MoS2exhibited high reinforcing efficiencyfor rubber, which is comparable to that possessed by graphene [6].
