Developing a lab prototype
In the development of the initial version of UNU-AES, several key decisions
regarding the components which make up an EXSYS knowledge base were
addressed, including the selection of a probability system. This system
provides the range of probability values which can be assigned to each rule
in the knowledge base. The knowledge engineers selected a probability
system which provided four groupings between 0 and + 100 so that the
results would be much easier to interpret. The probability values are based
on four classes indicating varying degrees of success that could be expected
when the recommended technology is implemented. The four probability
classes are:
poor --
fair
good --
excellent --
20/100 (range of 0-39)
50/100 (range of 40-59)
75/100 (range of 60-85)
90/100 (range of 86-100)

Qualifier -Contains a key determinant and appears in the IF
statement in the form of a question. Most qualifiers
usually end with a verb.
Qualifier Value - Is the possible completion of the IF statement. A qualifier
value may be a number, a word, or a phrase.

solution to the decision rule. A choice has a probability
value associated with it.
Is a numerical value assigned to the choice and indicates
the likelihood of successfully implementing the recommendation.
Is the conditional statement which consists of fact and/
or heuristics about the specified area.
Information which tells the user who, what, where,
when, why, and how something occurs.
