There were no significant differences in age, BMI, or habitual physical activity levels between groups (). HbA1C was higher in the
subjects with diabetes than that in the nondiabetic subjects and not different between men and women with T2D. Six of 15 women and
four of 14 men with T2D were taking metformin and/or sulfonylureas. One nondiabetic woman and two people in each of the other
groups were taking statins. Insulin sensitivity (normalized by BMI) was greater in nondiabetic participants than that in persons with
T2D. Adiponectin levels were higher in the nondiabetic women than those in women with T2D, whereas CRP levels were lower in
nondiabetic participants than those in subjects with T2D. IL-6 levels were higher in subjects with T2D than those in nondiabetic
participants. Estradiol levels did not differ significantly between women with and without diabetes.
