Rabari
Design by Nipa Doshi + Jonathan Levien
The Rabari collection is made from 100% New Zealand wool, handmade in India by using the hand knotted and hand woven Sumak techniques.
Beyond the exceptional beauty that gives the bright colour of the wool curl, the Rabari are four rugs (two in beige, one in black and one in olive green) with an outstanding design, a canvas on which Doshi Levien have designed a refined combination of rhythms with a unique graphic sensuality.
We wanted our collection for Nani Marquina to reference the unfinished embroideries like studies of different techniques in progress, as they gradually emerge over time. The spontaneous compositions of the rugs embody the serendipity and freedom to improvise inherent in each step of a handmade piece; Joyful, irreverent and unique.” Doshi Levien
“When I touched their embroidery for the first time, I thought ‘who could take these assimilated shapes, be capable of bringing them to life and create such unique designs with them?’ Just then, Patricia Moroso stopped my train of thought: ‘Let me introduce you to Nipa Doshi, the Indian principessa’ -” Nani Marquina
