On long rappels that use multiple ropes, passing the knot is often cumbersome and time consuming. The Krok’s big steel figure 8 with ears offers a very large upper hole (7 cm internal diameter) that will allow knots to pass through the rappel device. This is a quicker and safer technique than removing the belay device or rappel device from the rope. A life saver if you ever split a rope. The additional ears allow a rappeler to add friction one handed while descending. One can also completely stop and free ones hands by cleating off on the ears (not a replacement for a safety brake or prusik). The hands free rope block is a great option for canyoneering, spelunking, tree climbing, arborist work, rescue work, setting up new routes and other times when you need to frequently stop a descent.
