Antibiotics used in acne therapy
may act not only as bactericidal agents but also as inhibitors of
enzyme production under non-growth-limiting conditions In this
study, P. acnes isolated from acne lesions exhibited enzyme activity
both lipase and protease with high percentages. Even though many
factors have been rigorously disputed in the pathogenesis of acne,
production of lipase enzyme by the organisms has been importantly
considered. In addition, other extracellular enzymes
including acid phosphatase, hyaluronidase, and protease documented
to be involved in acne inflammation [22,23].
