Conclusion
This is the first study to identify the influencing factors of
PHNs and HHNs caring for people with schizophrenia in
Taiwan. In this study, the influencing factors include client,
family, nurse and social factors. Several positive influencing
factors found in this study enhance the delivery of homevisiting
services in Taiwan. This study also reveals several
negative influencing factors that hinder the delivery of
home-visiting services. Therefore, several recommendations
can be made. First, government policies should be
developed to ensure that community nurses are protected
when they are caring for clients. Second, PHNs must
improve upon and continue their education in psychiatric
nursing and attain the skills required in order to increase
their ability to provide home care. However, to enhance the
transfer value of the sample, the wide variation in this
study was limited by several factors such as the observed
data were focused on the same region in the Central
Taiwan. Besides, nurses in the southern part of Taiwan
were not willing to participate. Suggestions for future
research may include using qualitative (such as ethnographic
or phenomenological) and quantitative approaches
to explore more broadly on the influencing factors of
mental health home-visiting services, particularly the effect
of the media.
