On the other hand, we can also observe many people actively pursuing inactivity!Arriving
back at London’s Heathrow airport one time, Stuart came across the amusing sight of a passenger deciding whether to walk to therightabout twenty metres in order to get on the moving walkway which was travellingleftback to the baggage claim area! Have you noticed how many people stand still on these walkways, even after long haul flights of many hours of seated inactivity? Moreover, I was struck by how many ‘health professionals’(!) took the escalators rather than the stairs at the American College of Sports Medicine meeting in San Francisco when I attended in 2003, and then stood still! A wide set of stairs was available immediately adjacent to
the escalators.
