Pholdaeng and Pongsamart reported that P. monodon fed with diets containing 1% and 2% polysaccharide gel (PG) extracted from D. zibethinus exhibited slightly higher body
weight gain than that of shrimp fed with diet without PG for 8 weeks. Therefore, it is evident that the non-protein energy sources (carbohydrates and lipid) in the diets have the ability to spare dietary protein by reducing the catabolism of protein for energy,which can improve protein retention and ultimately growth in animals
