In
fact, after aninitial adaptationperiodof 15days,COD removallevels
of 70% were achieved in the FSBR, while levels higher than 80% were
frequently determined in the GSBR. The different biomass concentration
values reached in the two SBR systems (5 and 13 g L−1 TSS
in FSBR and GSBR, respectively) might be responsible for these
results.
In terms of color removal, both the flocculent and the granular
biomass rapidly adapted to the presence of the azo dye. In fact,
high and stable color removal yields of 75–80% were observed in
FSBR1 and GSBR1 after 10 days of operation
