Our study suggests that QS is a new, potent hepatoprotective compound which is able to reduce lipid
peroxidation and improve antioxidant enzyme activity against CCl4-induced acute liver injury in mice.
We also demonstrate that 5',8-disulfation of quercetin remarkably improves hepatoprotective activity
and systemic absorption in vivo. This sulfatation strategy in the structural transformation of flavones
provides a new path to modulate their bioavailability and bioactivity. Further research and trials are
required to identify the mechanism of the hepatoprotective effects of QS for therapeutic use.
