Teacher Education term was first used officially in 1981
to replace the Teacher Training term that has been used previously. Changes in
teacher education and curriculum development in Malaysia resulted from an attempt to make the Malay language as instruction in the educational system from primary school to the university level This change is due to the change of name of the Teacher Training Division (TTD)
to the Teacher Education Division (TED) Teacher Education Programme
at the teacher training college with the course was extended from

teacher education for secondary school teachers were held in
five colleges College Kirkby in England (1952) Kota Bharu Teachers College (1954) Teachers' College Briensford Lodge of England (1956) Teachers College Penang (1957) Teachers College Kuala Lumpur (1963) At the
end of 1950s, teacher education curriculum
in colleges began
renewed. In general,
teacher education curriculum
is divided into four Educational component parts components and selection
of basic subjects component of co-curricular and practicum training The curriculum at
two colleges in England, KIrkby College
and Brinsford Lodge College
is based on required by the
Institute of Education in Liverpool
and the Institute of Education in Birmingham Syllabus of lessons

and adapted from the traditional
syllabus education training
college in England. In 1963,

to assess and renew syllabus for secondary teacher training Due to

the course program for
Basic Teaching Three Year
was introduced in 1981. The program aimed at improving

Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) on 27 March 2004,
teacher education and planning for secondary and primary school teacher training were separated and given to MOHE and MOE
respectively. The MOHE trains the secondary school teachers via government-funded universities MOE trains primary teachers via the
Institute of Teacher Education (ITE),
to ensure professional development is encouraged

Teacher Education Division (TED)
is a department within the
Malaysian Ministry of Education which
