This study focused on English speaking strategies of the 2nd year EIC students in order to find out the strategies used. The majority of participants was female, and aged between 19-20 years old. Almost half of the participants have moderate English ability. Some participants were good, and a few of them were weak. Only one participant has very good English ability.
The results revealed that participants had a high level of using English speaking strategies. The participants reported that the most used strategy were I use the dictionary to prepare a role play or communicative activity in class and if I do not hear a word or phrase clearly, I relate it to the part of the conversation that I understood, followed by if I do not know how to say a word in English, I say it in Thai. The least frequently used were I repeat the last word or phrase I said to gain time and I tell my speaking partner when I do not understand something were at the medium level.
