Montgomery County Habitat for Humanity recently celebrated the groundbreaking of its new facilities in The Woodlands.
The nonprofit is constructing a 20,000-square-foot home improvement store on four acres at Texas 242 and Gleneagle Drive. The facility, called ReStore at Woodforest Center, accepts donations of furniture, appliances and other home improvement items and sells them back to the community for a small profit. All proceeds benefit the nonprofit.
"There are so many positives at our new location. First and foremost, it's going to be high visibility - (Texas) 242 right in Conroe - it's very high traffic. Now, we're located in, essentially, a residential neighborhood, so people have to go out of their way to find us," said Isabel McDanel, director of development at the Montgomery County Habitat for Humanity.
The Woodlands facility is expected to open in January of 2016. In addition to air conditioning and heating, the new ReStore will have 85 parking spaces and is expected to handle more than 26,000 cars per day.
"It's kind of an environmental recycling program because we take things that a lot of people don't know what to do with. The funds go back to the mission of Habitat for Humanity, and they're able to provide the funds to build more homes.
