What’s up hillbilly?! It was as if Jeremy Scott had imagined Elly May Clampett firing cap guns throughout Warhol’s factory this season for a collection that began with sun-bleached denim and moved onto cheeky chaps and lewd cactus prints. His camp and colourful humour ran all over the runway, poking its tongue out at the fashion establishment. Scott’s shows have become one of the highlights during each New York Fashion week for exactly this reason (I love being entertained and betting on an outside runner) but as Ajak Deng walked the runway in an unexpectedly accessible yellow cacti print shirt dress paired with a wide green leather belt and matching clasp bag, the thought that this designer has really only begun exploring the themes and shapes that entertain him did spring to mind. This thirty-something from Missouri has come a long way, he already lived in and left Paris yet somehow one feels that we only just touched down on his yellow brick road. Back to the collection and his statement of trailer trash hokey-pokey continued with tassles and a cowboy boot meets basketball trainer hybrid (cowball boots?) and then a selection of cowhide print dresses (the marshal star ‘Jeremy Scott’ insignia was too much fun). All of the footwear shown will be a hit with Scott’s fans and it feels certain that this collection will appear in lots of magazine shoots next spring. Scott's fun, cartoon world continues to light up our lives, yeehaw to that!
