The KPS scores were low in both patient groups with mean
values in the range of 30 to 40. Karnofsky scores in the PCU
patients were stable (39.60 + 2.82 and 37.20 + 3.29 at the first and the second evaluation, respectively) and decreased in home
patients (37.60 + 2.82 at the first and 30.40 + 3.29 at the second
measurement) with the time effect (P < .001) and interaction
of a patient group with time of QOL assessment (P ¼ .03)
in favor of the PCU, with no patient group effect (P ¼ .3,
ANOVA).
