I’m sure that like a lot people, I had many preconceived ideas about Oxford and Cambridge, particularly regarding the people who study there. Anyone who inquires about the so-called ‘Oxbridge stereotypes’ is usually told that they simply doesn’t exist, which is pretty much true to be honest. I only mention this now because I hope to avoid focussing on it in the future. The students are all very different, there certainly are people who fit the stereotype perfectly, but it would be ridiculous to make sweeping statements about all 38,000 students.
Instead, I want to focus on breaking down some of the ideas that people have about the universities and shed some light on some of the less well-known sides to them. I’ll try to avoid the obvious things that anyone who would bother to read this would already know, but they may crop up from time to time.
