After having gone through this chapter, students should be able to
• describe the contexts of various equity- and growth-oriented rural development
programmes and their main objectives;
• describe the salient features of various equity-oriented rural development
programmes, such as the Community Development Programme (COP), Training of Rural Youth for Self-Employment (TRYSEM) scheme and Small Farmers, Marginal Farmers and Agricultural Labourers Project, and major lessons of experience with them and
• illustrate the salient features of various growth-oriented programmes such as the Intensive Agriculture District Programme (IADP), Intensive Cattle Development Project (ICDP), High Yielding Variety Programme (HYVP) and Operation Flood (OF) programme, and lessons of experience with them.
