MDSP is developed in the Scandinavian cultural context in
Norwegian. But that does not mean that it could not be used
in other countries. The content should probably be understandable in
most modern western societies. But if MDSP is translated into other
languages, it has to be tested again with respect to reliability and
validity, which is the usual procedure when translating instruments
(Streiner and Norman, 2003).
In conclusion, the constructed instrument The Moral Development
Scale for Professionals is an instrument that shows sufficient and fairly
sound psychometric values in this initial testing. It is ready to use for
measuring moral development among students and professionals. If
the instrument is translated into other languages, these new versions
have to be tested with respect to reliability and validity. Further
testing of the Norwegian version will in the future be done with other
methods in other study groups.
