One of the key independent variables is a working day near a holiday. We distinguish between a working day before a holiday and aworking day after a holiday. It is expected that these variables affect the electricity infeed in the evening before a holiday and in the morning after a holiday. Bridge days are also included as an independent variable. Bridge days may influence the electricity infeed, since many people take an extra day off on these days. Another calendar variable to include is (primary) school holidays. During these days, many people go on vacation and this might have an effect on the electricity infeed. These holidays are regulated by the Dutch government region by region and each region has different school holidays. We also include a calendar variable called Bouwvak in Dutch. This variable indicates the period in which companies in the construction industry are closed. A lot of people working in the construction industry go on vacation during this period and hence, this may influence the electricity infeed. Finally, we also include a separate variable to indicate Dutch Carnival. This variable will only have an effect on the electricity infeed in the southern part of the Netherlands since many people take some days off to celebrate this event.
