Abstract

Biomedical waste also known as infectious waste or
medical waste. This study was therefore, conducted
to
understand the awareness amongst the employees as r
egards to
biomedical waste management practices to study the
knowledge,
attitude and practice of the respondent. The hospit
al chosen for
the study is a premier tertiary level institute in
India. This cross
sectional study was carried out in Department of Ob
stetrics and
Gynaecology, CSM Medical University, (Erstwhile KGM
U)
Lucknow. The study was conducted in 120 hours. 10 d
octors and
20 nurses were included in the study. Two groups we
re made:
Group A- Nursing staff (20 nurses, all females) Gro
up B-
Doctors (10 Junior Doctors, 8 from Obstetrics and G
ynaecology,
2 from Paediatrics). 30% of the doctors and 20% nur
sing staff
have more than 70% knowledge about biomedical waste
management. 100% doctors and 60% nurses have a posi
tive
attitude towards biomedical waste management.
