Studies of fish broodstock have demonstrated the necessity of high quality nutrient supplementation especially at the beginning of gonad development and during the vitellogenesis period. In this study, the levels of crude protein in the diet positively influenced reproductive characteristics such as somatic indexes (gonadosomatic, hepatosomatic and viscerosomatic), reproductive parameters (absolute and relative fecundity of the females), egg diameter and larvae survival capacity. These improvements resulted in greater larvae and fingerling production. This work concludes demonstrating that diets, formulated with 38% CP and with a ratio of 9.5 ED/g CP,are the best diets for the reproductive period of tilapia females.
