synthesized through terpenoid pathway. Efficiency and production
of these secondary metabolites depends on the rate of photosynthesis
for their energy and carbon requirements (Singh et al.,
1990). Hence, by enhancing the rate of photosynthesis through adequate
supply of phytonutrients may increase the accumulation of
artemisinin in A. annua L.
Studies carried by Ozguven et al. (2008) and Singh (2000) have
shown positive effect on artemisinin content and yield by the application
of varying nitrogen doses. But to our knowledge, no study
has been conducted so far to study the effect of organic manure
and interactive effect of chemical fertilizers (N, P, K and S) on A.
annua L. plants. We therefore, conducted an experiment with the
objectives to compare the effects of organic manure and chemical
fertilizers on artemisinin contents, biomass accumulation in various
plant parts and artemisinin yield through phenological stages
of A. annua L. plants.
