Although the content values of the soil parameters are all lower in the subsurface layer than in the top layer of two kinds of subbasins, their spatial distributions at the two layers are different and the heavy metal parameters appear as a bigger spatial variance. This pattern indicates the land use conversion has more impact on heavy metal than on non-heavy metal parameters. The lower background concentration of heavy metals is sensitive to the addition from the fertilization. During land use conversion, farmland tillage affects not only the element accumulation at different depths (Love and Nejadhashemi, 2011), but also N transport.
