(Open): Stocks on Wall Street opened lower as traders waited for the release of minutes from the Federal Reserve's September meeting.
The US central bank kept interest rates on hold last month, but three members of its policymaking committee voted to raise them.
Minutes of the meeting will be scrutinised for clues as to when the Fed might increase rates.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 31.06 points to 18,097.60.
The wider S&P 500 index dropped 20.02 points to 2,134.71 while the tech-heavy Nasdaq fell 4.46 points to 5,242.33.
Shares in Apple climbed a further 0.7%. Apple's shares have risen in the past few days on the expectation that iPhone sales will benefit from the problems at Samsung, which has cancelled production of its Galaxy Note 7 after a number of battery fires.
