The majority of the participants of the study were married (65.4%), followed by
14.1% who had never been married. Sixty two point seven percent of the respondents
were White. Black respondents made up 30.4% and the last 6.9% were identified as
other. In relation to employment status the majority of the respondents (72.8%) were
employed, 22.5% were out of the labor force, 4.4% were unemployed and only .3% were
in active force. The majority of the respondents were from Region 3, South, 41.9%, the
second largest group was Region 2, North Central at 23.8%. Region 4, West, was the
region of residence for 19.3% of respondents and lastly Region 1, Northeast, made up
14.9% of the respondents.
