Indonesian students regard English as a foreign language. One of four basic skills in understanding English is reading. This reading ability is animportant skill to acquire. However, reading is not an easy thing to do. Nation(2009) explains some difference characteristics that may affect the difficulty of learning to read in another language. First, The L1 beginning readers alreadyknow the language they are going to read, but the L2 readers not. It may affect theL2 readers to have the language learning before starting reading. Second, the L2 beginners can already read in their L1. This may affect the attitudes of readingthat may interference and facilitate affect between L1 and L2.In my class, the students regarded English as a difficult subject. They felt bored since they had no enough capability to understand the language. So, it madethem meet some difficulties in understanding the English material. Teachers could give students inadvance a vocabulary list or puzzles as a preparation for the reading lesson.Teaching narrative text deals with teaching stories. Mart (2012) studiedthat stories are motivating for young learners, and stories can create a happy andenjoyable learning environment. Stories provide an outstanding opportunity for young learners to master the foreign language.
