Each point of red panda sighting or faeces was marked and habitat factors of the location was quantied using ten-tree method (Mueller-Dombois and
Ellenberg, 1974). The sampled location where the animal evidence was found was named animal centered plot to dierentiate between the four additional random plots established at four cardinal directions from the animal centered plot. The four random plots were established in order to compare the habitat factors of the location found to be used by the red panda (animal centered plot) and random locations. Random distances (>30±250 paces) were generated for establishing these random plots. Habitat variables such as altitude, habi-tat type, topography, aspect, slope angle, tree species and canopy cover were recorded. Shrub species, shrub cover, bamboo species, number and average bamboo height were quanti®ed in 3 m2 quadrats.
