Third, and more on the periphery though ideologically linked to post-Dayton
peace implementation,
the OSCE has progressed through a period of post-Cold War development and identity flux,
seeking to manage the shift in Euro-Atlantic relations,
European Union expansion and shif ting geopolitical imperatives.
This shor t history of the Mission will primarily address the first two historical
elements – on the development of post-war BiH and the Mission’s role in peace
implementation in this time, touching on the broader issues of OSCE purpose
and meaning only in the concluding remarks.
