Wound care
The evidence for optimal choice of dressing is based on chronic wounds and not surgical wounds. However, an interactive dressing is recommended for protecting surgical wounds (DH 2007). Interactive dressings create a moist wound environment and interact with the wound to enhance wound healing by reducing colonisation count and level of exudate, improving wound bed moisture retention, wound collagen matrix, and removing cellular products or providing protection for the new cells (Swezey 2010).
