Routine monitoring of feed withdrawal procedures is necessary to ensure they remain functional. The best way to monitor if feed withdrawal times are correct is visual observation. The presence of watery droppings from broilers awaiting processing, watery fluid in the small intestine, and litter in the crop and gizzard all indicate excessive withdrawal times (more than 12 hours). The presence of feed in the crop or fecal contamination at the processing plant indicates that the feed withdrawal period has been inadequate (less than 8 hours).
