Beginning in 2010, Eastman deliberately took steps to transform an already good
energy program into a great one. While energy efficiency in industry may be perceived
as purely a technical challenge, a robust energy program must broadly seek support
and input from many internal organizations with engagement of employees at all
levels. Many of the items discussed in this chapter may not appear groundbreaking in
scope and may even seem easy to implement. However, a great deal of effort and
discipline is required to maintain focus and influence progress. And whether you
choose to have a good program or a great one, almost any program can benefit in some
way by learning from others.
