antioxidant and anti-obesity natural food additive, the cytotoxic
effects of lotus seed epicarp extracts were evaluated first. The results
showed that lotus seed epicarp extracts had no cytotoxic effects on
the cells, under the experimental concentrations. The good biocompatibility
of the lotus seed epicarp is advantageous for the development
of it as natural food additive. Here, is reported the first study
on the cytotoxicity of lotus seed epicarp on several cell lines as also
is the anti-obesity effects of the lotus seed epicarp. It was also
shown that the lotus seed epicarp extracts in pork homogenates
effectively inhibited lipid oxidation, as evaluated by TBARS values
and POVs. Moreover, the antioxidative and the anti-obesity effects
of the lotus seed epicarp extract were dose-dependent. Results of
the antioxidative activity of the lotus seed epicarp extract in pork
