The above class projects have been selected based on the fact that
each takes advantage of certain aspects of mobile computing in
unique ways. Audio Feed experimented with voice activated
control of a mobile app. The students had to understand the
varying levels of noise a mobile device can be subject to. The
students also had to make design choices between speech
recognition engines available on the device and as cloud services.
Location based chat allowed students to explore the modalities of
location and to understand the choices to be made for location
detection indoors and outdoors. Panic alert allowed students to
understand the relationship between accelerometer and gyroscope
so as to come up with a set of gestures which were repeatable and
simple. Note that these, and other projects were selected, designed
and scoped based on user feedback studies conducted by the
students.
