Inadequate protection to support elements causing corrosion and severe rusting of the roof battens (see Roof Inspection Report, page 20). Battens should be galvanised steel and the coating should be a zinc rich primer or red oxide paint. Compounding the lack of adequate corrosion protection of roof battens is the use of galvanized steel sheet underlayment, causing galvanic action and erosion through an electrolytic process wich is basically the same as rust. This will lead to a complete destruction of the support elements over time, causing leakage of water into the rooms.
