Actors may also be used in simulation experiences to more effectively address common issues and problems that frequently occur in specific populations, such as psychiatric patients. For example, interactive and reflective simulated experiences may be developed using actors and interdisciplinary teams to address psychiatric patients who are suicidal or depressed on a clinical unit. Alternately, simulated experiences may be developed that focus on elements of communication and empathy, such as caring for dying patients and their family members. Further, actors may be used to create simulated experiences that do not occur very commonly but that are critical to manage effectively (e.g., inappropriate sexual activity).
