Modified kanban System (MKS) is a modification made to be
used in a semiconductor company in which the original kanban
could not be implemented (Otenti, 1991). The main purpose to
develop this system was the production lines irregularity due to
operational problems and their remaining difficulties that
affected the production process for a certain time even after the
problems are solved. The basic principle of the MKS system is to
divide the operations into groups or inventory control centers and
create a work in process limit for each of these groups by the use
of signals. The MKS operational disadvantage is too many workers
moving inside and between the workstations. On the other hand,
this system is self-manageable and eliminates the need of
inventory level monitoring during each stage.
