Antioxidant activity of the purified water-soluble fraction was
detected at sample concentrations between 2 and 10 mg/ml for
DPPH scavenging assay (Fig. 5A) and between 100 and 500 lg/ml
for ORAC assay (Fig. 5B). Both assays showed that the water-soluble
fraction exhibited concentration-dependent antioxidant activity,
although relatively high sample concentrations were required
compared to different butanol extracts. Moreover, similar ORAC
assay results were observed for the oligosaccharide fraction F2
(Fig. 4B) suggesting that the purified water-soluble fraction, which
is mainly composed of oligosaccharides, also contains some
hydrophilic antioxidant compounds.
