The rapid growth rate, high nutrient bioaccumulation capacity and fodder potential make S. hemiphyllum a good candidate for seaweed/fish polyculture. Meanwhile, the superior heavy metals (Cu, Zn, Pb, Cd and Cr) accumulation capacity of S. henslowianum indicated it can be used as biofilter and/or biomonitor for heavy metal contamination.
