Non-predatory fish have a negligible concentration of Cd, while
Hg and Pb are present, although in a non-significantly different way
one from each other. This class is composed for 38% by Lates niloticus
caught in Lake Victoria: as described by Kundu, Musa, Aura and Lusweti (2014) this area is contaminated primarily by Hg and
Pb because of the type of near industrial activities and anthropogenic
enrichment. As described by Liu and Collegues, while in
marine fishes the dietary uptake is the predominant uptake of
metal accumulation, in freshwater fish the intake of heavy metals is
primarily due to the accumulation of dissolved metals from the
environment (Liu et al., 2015).
