The strong correlation between values of ankle pressures of
the right and left pedal arteries, using ABI measurements as a
continuous variable, demonstrated that the atherosclerotic process in both sets of pedal arteries was symmetrical and closely
correlated, and affected both legs in diabetic patients. However,
mean ABI values were slightly lower in the left leg than the
right, suggesting a unilateral predisposition to disease, which
agrees with the findings of Fowkes.
