The development of genomic and molecular
genetics, and more recently -omic approaches, has
resulted in a rapid increase of interest in the study
of non-conventional yeasts (Spencer et al., 2002).
Due to the availability of its complete genome
sequence and of efficient genetic tools, Y. lipolytica
has emerged as a good model among these nonconventional
yeasts. Accordingly, the growing
scientific interest in Y. lipolytica is illustrated by
the increasing number of articles (Figure 1) and
book chapters devoted to this yeast.
