2007: The tornado – The very latest technology in the Museum.
Ensuring that all exhibits are seen in their best light is some very special lighting technology and a sophisticated lighting concept. The museum’s smoke elimination system is unique. Its design was based on the way a tornado works. In the event of a fire, 144 air jets in the walls of the atrium generate an artificial tornado, which is then discharged out over the roof via a fan at Level 8. This concept for smoke elimination, which is the only one of its kind in the world, was successfully demonstrated by the Mercedes-Benz Museum in a world record-breaking attempt in October 2007. It now has a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the “strongest artificially generated tornado in the world”.
