Table 2 compares patients with major depression and anxiety against those without. Overall, there were no statistical differences in socio-demographic characteristics between patients with a psychiatric diagnosis compared to those without. Patients with depression or anxiety were significantly more likely to rate themselves as having mental health issues than those without psychiatric diagnoses (p < 0.01). Initial analysis shows no significant difference in stage of cancer between patients with a psychiatric diagnosis compared to those without. Post hoc analysis, stratifying stage of cancer into the categories of non-terminal (stages 1–3) cancer and terminal (stage 4) cancer, revealed that depression was more prevalent in those with terminal cancer (Fisher's exact test, p = 0.013).
