4. Conclusions
The ability of a new approach based on an electronic olfactory system for a fast and reliable discrimination of perfume forgery has been demonstrated. The best conditions for sample preparation have been found to be in absence of ethanol. Sample preparation
is minimal and the method in absence of ethanol permits the discrimination among authentic, counterfeit and inspired perfumes by the pattern recognition. Moreover it reveals that there is a clear correlation between the price of the inspired samples (see Table 1)
and their proximity to the authentic perfume. Its high sensitivity, dynamic properties and simplicity can be advantageous in the perfume industry, for instance when applied to online quality control.
