A multiple case study approach explored designers’ views on cultural inquiry of distance
learners and their perceptions about how specifically the data can be gathered and used for
making design and delivery decisions for cross-cultural instruction. An in-depth analysis of
multiple cases revealed the current practices among instructional designers in the pursuit
of culturally competent design and their perceptions about current learner analysis strategies
and about the learner information that is most valuable in incorporating cultural factors
into design.
