As reported in Uygur folk medicine,
black mulberry fruits (Uygur name ‘Xiatutu’) are traditionally used
as a medicine for tonsillitis, sore throat, iron deficiency, anaemia,
as well as the prevention and treatment of hypertension. It is
referred to as the ‘saint-mulberry’ and has a sacred status with
the Uygur people in the southern Xinjiang region (Jiang, Xu, Liu,
& Huang, 2011; Maimaiti, 2007).
